Rosedale

A delightful dale, considered to be at the heart of the North York Moors. Quiet now, but 150 years ago this dale echoed with the sound of the ironstone mining activities. The principle village is Rosedale Abbey, a misnomer since it was a Cistercian Priory that was founded there in the 12th century not an abbey. The population of the dale today is about 300, half what it was before the mining days when it peaked at 5000.
