Common Newt

In the Goyt Valley again today. One of the group found this “lizard” trying to cross the road. It’s a Common Newt; sometimes called a Smooth Newt. Normally nocturnal this was at lunch time. At about 5 centimetres long it wouldn’t stand much chance against a car so we safely delivered it back to the verge. Alls well.
