Boggle Hole

Hidden away in a cove once notorious for smuggling, Boggle Hole is one of the last remaining youth hostels on the North York Moors. I think there are six left. It’s a former mill and is located near Robin Hood’s Bay to the south of Whitby.

Boggles, or bogarts or hobs, are malevolent goblins who were supposed to live in the caves and holes around the cove. They are a common feature in place names in North Yorkshire.
