The Hills

Parked up at Rosedale Head in mist and rain aiming to have a look at a track named on the map as the George Gap Causeway. With a name like that it must have some history. The track passes over the moor and drops into Great Fryup Dale. Looking over the edge into a sea of fog a prominent knoll was silhouetted. Just ripe for bagging. So I did. And another one appeared. And another.

What a fascinating area. Knolls, hidden re-entrants, little marshes. On the map it’s named quite unimaginatively as The Hills. It would make a super orienteering map.

By the time I had climbed up to Great Fryup Head the mist had cleared enabling a last look at The Hills.
