Crabdale Beck

Flowing into Cod Beck Reservoir just a few hundred metres downstream, but following the beck upstream is Sheepwash, beyond which the beck is mapped as Crabdale Beck. So which is it, Cod Beck or Crabdale Beck?

Either way most people refer to it nowadays as Sheepwash, part of a National Trust property. It is one of the honeypots of the North York Moors, busy even on a weekday. Before Cod Beck reservoir was even thought of there was a smaller dam hill here, one of three that would have provided a constant water supply to High Mill, which is now Osmotherley Hostel. The three dams had imaginative names: Low Dam, Middle Dam and, here, High Dam.
