Clumber Lake

In the Dukeries, an area of Nottinghamshire with several country estates that belonged to various dukes. Clumber House was built by the Duke of Newcastle. The house must have been quite a pile but suffered from various fires and was finally demolished in 1938. The Duke had the River Poulter dammed to create this artificial lake. The whole estate was left to the people of Worksop and acquired by the National Trust in 1946. It’s now one of the Trust’s flagship properties.
